It's the one original piece you shape by hand. From it, you create a plaster mold, and from that mold, you can reproduce your design again and again, same shape, same detail, your own style, every single time.
Why this is different from just copying a shape?
When you make your own master model, you're not reproducing someone else's design, you're creating one from scratch. That means the shape, the texture, the little details, all of it is yours.
You decide the form. You decide the pattern. You decide what makes it feel like your work.
And once it's cast in plaster, that original design becomes something you can reproduce again and again, but it started as something only you could make.
